Kristin Grant

Practicum Counsellor

Bio

Hi there!

Welcome, it means so much that you are here.

My name is Kristin, and I am honoured to be working as a Practicum Counsellor here at Vancouver Island University. As a student myself, I understand how overwhelming it can be to juggle coursework, personal responsibilities, our wellbeing, and all the unexpected curveballs life may throw our way. I am here to walk alongside you and offer support, compassion, and a safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental space to explore, or even just sit with, whatever may be on your mind. So, whether you're dealing with stress, relationship challenges, grief, adjusting to campus and university life, the bigger questions of meaning and purpose in a changing world, or anything else that may be on your mind, I welcome the opportunity to connect with you. Ultimately, I recognize that every person and every journey is different, so my goal is for us to explore what matters most to you and find an approach together that feels right for you.

I completed my undergraduate studies in Psychology and Counselling at Simon Fraser University and later worked in employee wellbeing before returning to school to pursue counsellor training. Along the way, I was reminded of the importance of slowing down and reconnecting with what matters most, which ultimately brought me back to my passion for supporting others.

Outside of work and school, you'll usually find me with my nose in a good book, on a yoga mat, at the gym, planning my next travel adventure, playing video games, or attempting to convince my two cats, Mitts and Socks, that dinner has already been served.

Taking the first step can sometimes feel like the hardest part, so I want to acknowledge the courage it takes to be here and reach out for support. If you'd like to connect, you can find the booking information on the VIU counselling page.

I want to acknowledge the Snuneymuxw First Nation for the privilege and honour of working on their traditional lands.
